Kevin Anderson

CONGRATULATIONS……to South Africa’s Kevin Anderson who has recorded the biggest win of his short career by beating the worlds third ranked playing in Novak Djokovic, and moved into the third round of the Masters Series Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, Florida. Anderson, ranked 122 in the world beat the Serb, who last week won the Masters Series Pacific Life Open, 7-6 3-6 6-4 coming back from a 0-2 deficit in the final set and from 30-40 down in the next game, won 13 points in a row to set the platform to achieve victory.

“I really don’t know what to say right now. I really tried to give myself the best shot” he said afterwards. “I can do this, I’ve just got to believe in myself, play my game.”

Well, the 6 foot 7 South African, who started the year by qualifying for the Australian Open, certainly did just that and this is the type of result that we have been looking for from a South African player for a number of years now. Kevin, once again had to qualify for this event but with more results like this one, then his days of qualifying will surely draw to a close and direct acceptance into a tournament with ease the pressure on him.

We said after he qualified for the Australian Open, that that success will spur him on with renewed confidence. It certainly seems to have done that, and we wish him well for not only this tournament but for the rest of the year.

Well done Kevin, and just remember that you did come through the Gauteng Central junior squad in your youth!!

We are pleased to announce that we will be sending an under 15 team to participate in the above tournament. The selected players are:
