Bundes League Final Results

On what was perhaps the most miserable of days last Saturday, there was plenty of sunshine on the courts with Bedfordview, as expected romping home to take the mens title, whilst Bryanston ladies were locked in a titanic battle before winning the last doubles to retain their title.

After having finished the singles locked at two all, Bryanston had to win both the doubles to secure victory. The second couple won comfortable 62 62, but Gaynor and Coure were locked at set all. So it all came down to the tie break where they managed to control their nerves, and take it 10-7 to ensure they retained their title.

The German club and Glenvista ended up holding the wooden spoon. Sadly for Glenvista their first foray into Bundes league did not go well, and were really out classed by all their opponents.  Hopefully a year back in the second tier will ensure that they regroup and re challenge for a place in the top flight in the future.

Our grateful thanks to Daniel for once again handling the responsibilities of Referee with his usual professional approach, and to his assistants who acted as Rovers.

 Bundes League Final Results 2011

Marks Park inflicted the first defeat of the season to Killarney and virtually handed the title to Bedfordview. In a tight encounter, the closest match of the season, Marks Park edged home 10-9 by virtue of the fact that they won all three doubles.  This gives Bedfordview a lead of nine points going into the final match against Killarney, and to overturn that sort of lead, Killarney can hardly afford to drop more than two matches.

Bryanston beat the German club to move above them in the table, and off the bottom. With German hosting Marks Park it seems certain that they will end up with the wooden spoon.

In the ladies, with Bryanston, the title holders, having a bye and Marks Park having finished their matches, the latter could rue having dropped one match against Boskruin. It means that Bryanston need 12 points to clinch the title. They are playing Bedfordview, who gained maximum points against Glenvista to condemn them to the foot of the table, and likely to end the season no higher. However if they beat Boskruin by six points or more, then the position reverses.

Bedfordview need ten points from their match against Bryanston to claim the title so the final weekend, amongst the ladies at any rate, is set to be an exciting time on the Ellis Park courts as top and bottom finishing positions are both still up in the air.
