Bonus for Scholars at SA Open

Johannesburg, South Africa – South African Tennis Association (SATA) announces school Monday to Friday days at the SA Tennis Open, to boost tennis awareness amongst the youth. In a bonus for school going tennis fans, SATA announced Wednesday that they would be offering a special deal to scholars for the first 5 days of the South African Tennis Open to be played in February next year.

The 2010 SA Tennis Open, which forms part of the ATP World Tour, will be played at Montecasino from 31 January – 6 February and offers prize money of over R3.5 million.

On Monday, 31 January and Tuesday 1 February, the first 15 schools to apply, will receive 20 free tickets which will enable them to watch tennis in the afternoon and evening matches. On Wednesday 2 February, Thursday 3 February and Friday 4 February, the first 15 schools to apply will also receive 20 free tickets for the afternoon sessions only.

As an added bonus, the successful schools will go into a lucky draw and ten schools will be drawn with each one of them being hosted for the day by one of the ATP World Tour professional players participating in the tournament. The school will have the once in a lifetime opportunity of attending a media conference with the respective player during which the scholars will be given the chance to pose questions to the player then following the media conference have picture and signing opportunities with the professional player.

This project will form part of the ATP Stars Programme whose objective is to get the fans and players to interact on a closer and more personal basis.

Bruce Davidson Tournament Promoter suggested schools make the most of this opportunity. “Tennis professionals have for a long time been seen to be distant from their fan base but now through the Stars Programme the fans have the golden opportunity of rubbing shoulders with their heroes and finding out firsthand what it is like to be a professional and ask the professionals questions on a one on one basis which was rarely possible in the past.”
