BThe second weekend fixtures in the Bundes league saw the men record comfortable victories, but the defending champions Bryanston Sports club in the ladies were given a scare.
Old Eds got their challenge under way with a 21-5 win over Randburg, and only lost one of the doubles matches. Brendan Zackey and Chad Brown both dropped a set in the singles, but the other four players won comfortably.
Marks Park easily accounted for Bryanston SC 21-6, and in the two singles matches that they lost they did gain a set.
Fairlands made it a “hat trick” of easy wins beating Morningside 20-5.
In the ladies, Bryanston Sports Club had a few nervous moments before edging past Boskruin on a games count. Bryanston’s Zelda Smook and Rosanne Duke both won, but Carmen Reed and Elna Botha both lost to leave the tie level pegging. With the doubles being split, it came down to a game count and Bryanston edged home 73-65.
Old Eds ladies got their first win under their belt with a 13-4 victory over Marks Park B, whilst Marks Park A continued their winning ways with a 13-6 score line against Fairlands.
After the first two weeks the log tables are as follows.
