After the first round of matches was postponed due to the rain, it was sunny skies all the way last Saturday with the current champions both recording convincing wins.
In the mens league, Marks Park laid down a marker with a 19-5 win over Old Edwardians who claimed wins at the top and bottom of the singles and also picked up a set in the doubles. Fairlands had an even easier win over Northern Suburbs 18-8, while Bryanston Sports beat Morningside 17-7.
In the ladies Marks Park and Bryanston Sports again showed that they will be the contenders for the title with the current holders, Marks Park beating Old Edwardians 16-2, and Bryanston accounted for Boskruin 14-5.
One fact that is a little disconcerting, is that in a number of cases the older generation triumphed over todays juniors which, for the future of tennis in the province, is not really a good sign. For todays juniors who want to go on to play on a higher stage, they should be beating their more experienced opponents at this stage of their development.
