Bundes League Champions already decided

Certainly the ladies title has been decided as Bryanston, as expected, won their two last matches comfortably beating both Fairlands and Old Eds to secure the title and wrested it back from Marks Park.

Bryanston and Marks Park have dominated this league for a number of years and it was really only last season that Marks Park could get the better of them. With Bryanston having beaten the bottom two clubs with plenty to spare, it shows the lack of depth in our ladies tennis which is of concern to the Province executive.

But CONGRATS to Bryanston who once again proved to be the best ladies club with a good deal of comfort. In beating the second place team 13-4, it shows how dominant they were throughout the league.

In the men, it looks as though Marks Park will retain their title, but they do have to play Fairlands, their nearest challengers, on the final day. But being 15 points ahead going into this match, it means that Fairlands will have to almost “white wash” the Park to wrest the title.

Northern Suburbs meet Morningside this weekend to see who ends up with the Wooden Spoon. Last Saturday Morningside edged closer by gaining 4 points from Old Eds whilst Suburbs could only manage 3 off Marks Park which only gives Northern Suburbs a four point cushion going into this vital match. Once again it was left to Clive Wilson to salvage something for Suburbs as he beat Patrick Wysoczarska in three sets playing at number one.

Bryanston beat Fairlands to close the gap on them to just one point going into the last round, and with Bryanston seemingly having the easier fixture against Old Eds, they look set to finish as runners up. Results:

Marks Park beat Northern Suburbs 22-3
Bryanston SC beat Fairlands 18-8
Old Eds beat Morningside 21-4

Bryanston SC beat Fairlands 15-2
Bryanston SC beat Old Eds 17-5 (this match was played on Sunday)
