Gauteng Central player Bertus Kruger won the boys’ final against Timothy Dollman in three sets 1-6, 6-2 and 6-3 in a match lasting more than two hours at the Curro Junior ITF 2 tennis tournament in Stellenbosch. Kruger also won the Curro Junior ITF 1 tournament last week. Like last week Kruger started slow and the seven double faults he made in the first set placed him firmly on the back foot. But when he started in the second set with his general play better and his serve back on track it was one-way traffic for the second seed. The top seed Dollman just had no answers to Kruger’s game. And every time it looked like he might get back on track it was just delaying the inevitable. Both players were visibly tired, but it was Dollman who took some real strain in the final set especially.
Another Gauteng Central player, Imaan Hassim playing with Amelie Boy from Mauritius were doubles finalists after losing to the Dutch combination of Daevenia Achong and Annick Verhaar.
Top seeds Bertus Kruger paired up with Timothy Dollman lost the doubles finals to George Botha and Phililp Henning – seeded sixth – beat the top seeds by 1-6, 6-0 and 10/6.
