SA Team off to Junior World Cup

Pretoria, South Africa; The South African under 14 girls tennis team will be jetting off to the Czech Republic on Friday to represent the continent in the Junior World Cup.
The team will consist of Makayla Loubser (Western Cape), Lara Van Der Merwe (North West Province) and Delien Kleinhans (Free State). The coach will be Terrey Schweitzer (Gauteng East).
The tournament will be played from 1-6 August, 2016 at the PC Club in Prostejov on red clay.
South Africa will be one of sixteen teams represented at the world’s premier junior team event for under 14 players.
The sixteen teams will be divided into four groups each of four teams and a round robin will be played between the nations in each of the groups with the group winners qualifying for the knock out semi-finals.
Schweitzer said that the tournament would be a very tough competition. “South Africa will be facing the best in the world and playing on red clay, a surface which South Africans are not normally comfortable playing on. Our aim is to go the Prostejov and compete well and end in the top eight teams.”
Loubser and Van Der Merwe are presently in Europe as part of the “Young Stars” ITF touring team which is funded by the Grand Slam Development Fund.
“We are fortunate that Mikayla and Lara were selected for the Young Stars team which are playing a series of tournaments on clay leading into the Junior World Cup. At least they will have played some matches and practised on red clay ahead of the World Cup and hopefully when we assemble in the Czech Republic they will feel comfortable on the clay” added Schweitzer.
Schweitzer said that the third team member Delien Kleinhans was in fine form having recently won the TSA Series Gauteng East tournament.
