Potchefstroom to host two junior ITF tournaments

The first international junior tennis events for 2017 in South Africa will be hosted by North West University at the Riaan Venter Tennis Academy in Potchefstroom over the next two weeks.

Two under 18 Grade 5 tournaments for boys and girls to be called the NWU PUKKE ITF 1 and NWU PUKKE ITF 2 will be played at the Potchefstroom campus.

There are 12 countries represented in the two events which will have boys and girls singles and doubles.

The NWU PUKKE ITF 1 will be played from Tuesday 14 to Saturday 18 February with the NWU PUKKE ITF 2 being played from Monday 20 to Saturday 25 February.

Tennis South Africa (TSA) will be hosting 7 International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior events this year of which these two tournaments form part of.

Riad Davids, Vice President of TSA said that in line with the TSA vision for 2024, TSA plan to grow the number of international junior events in the country. “We need to give our juniors the opportunity of playing international events at home. This saves them money on travel and allows them to perform at their best in the local conditions they are accustomed to. TSA are pleased that we have increased the number of international junior events in the country to 7 from 6 last year and hopefully we will increase the number of tournaments even further going forward.”
