South Africa have been drawn in Pool A for the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Zone Group 2 event taking place from Wednesday to Saturday in Lithuania. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced the official draw on Tuesday evening. The four-day event will be played at the Siauliai Tennis School in Siauliai. The eight nations contesting the Europe/Africa Zone Group 2 event are hosts Lithuania, Denmark, Egypt, Luxemburg, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden, and South Africa. South Africa, seeded fourth, have drawn top seeds Sweden, Slovenia and Norway in Pool A. They will play Sweden in their opening tie on Wednesday morning followed by Norway in the afternoon. On Thursday, South Africa will play Slovenia. All nations contesting the Zone Group 2 event will be bidding to qualify for the Fed Cup Euro/Africa Zone Group 1 next year. Two teams will be promoted after the event. Team captain Earl Grainger said that his team faced a big challenge in Lithuania. ‘Let’s not kid ourselves we are in a very tough tournament and have drawn first seeds in our opening pool tie. ‘But we have a very competent and enthusiastic team who are able to deliver so South Africa can be well assured of our best efforts always.’ Pool B consists of second seeds Denmark, the third-seeded host nations, Egypt and Luxembourg.
