Whitewash for SA Fed Cup team in Lithuania

The South African Fed cup team failed to win a match at the Europe/Africa Zone II group play in Siauliai, Lithuania that was played from 19 – 22 April 2017.
The South African team which was seeded fourth in the group lost all three round-robin matches 3-0 against Norway, Slovenia and Sweden.
The team then played fellow African’s Egypt in a relegation match. South Africa lost 2-0 with both Ilze Hatting and Chanel Simmonds losing their single rubbers.
Simmonds ranked 342 and Hatting at 639 in singles faced tough opposition that have higher rankings than the South Africans. Madrie Le Roux played in all the doubles matches with Simmonds and Hatting alternating as her partner.
South Africa along with Lithuania have been relegated to Europe/Africa Zone III for 2018. Both Slovenia and Sweden have been promoted to Europe/Africa Zone Group I for 2018.
