The South African Fed Cup team will be travelling to Ulcinj in Montenegro to play in the 2018 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Europe / Africa Zone Group III.
The draw for the event took place earlier today, at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) headquarters in London.
This will be the first event for the team under the leadership of new Captain, Rene Plant and the team is yet to be announced.
The 2018 Europe / Africa Zone Group III is split into two events – one in Tunisia and one in Montenegro. The allocated countries to each event are as follows:
Tunisia (Event A)
Montenegro (Event B)
The Montenegro event will be played outdoors on clay. There will be two pools – one of 5 teams and one of 6 teams. The teams will play all other teams in their group on a round robin basis.
The winners of each pool will then play-off against each other to determine which nation will advance to Europe/Africa II in 2019.
The Fed Cup by BNP Paribas is the premier international team competition in women’s tennis, it is also the world’s largest annual women’s international team sports competition – in terms of the number of nations that compete.
