The first term has been a great success thanks to everybody who has made the effort to come to Ellis Park on Saturdays. It is thanks to your support, both parents and players that the squad is a success.
Saturday 24 March was the Davis Cup style day where we divided the players into two teams, Switzerland and Spain. They all played four rounds of singles but there wasn’t enough time to play the doubles matches. Team Switzerland with Bradley Milton, Hayley Tsuen, Lilitha Ndunsane, Keira Bleksley, Dian Naude and Matthew Bezuidenhout were the winners. Team Spain, Mathew Muller, Ashton Van Heerden, Kwena Maphaka, Nawaal Garda, Danica Amm and Luke Oosthuizen were only two points behind Switzerland which made for an enjoyable morning for everyone. With Jared away my thanks go to Daniel Modisakeng, the TSA referee and Development Officer for Gauteng Central Tennis Association who ran the event for us. I think we should play another Davis Cup tie this term when more of you are available.
The second term of squad will start again on Saturday 14 April (to 9 June), from 08h30 to 10h30 when I look forward to seeing you all at the courts. As soon as Jared gets back from running the 2 Oceans I will send out a programme for the second term which end on Saturday 9 June 2018. During this term we have a Mini Series tournament run over two weekends, 12 and 13 May and the 19 and 20 May 2018 so I do hope you will all participate. Enter the usual way through TSA as it is always a good tournament to play. I have organised a match against the Gauteng East squad on Saturday 26 May when we divide play between Benoni and Ellis Park. The under 12, 14 and 16 age groups will play each other with4 boys and 4 girls in each age group. Another fun morning!
Good luck to all of you who will be going to Bloemfontein to play the GrowthPoint Super 8 as well as the Nationals, both tough tournaments.
